Shawn & Roberta’s Journey Beyond Beauty
Walking onto the bustling floors of the International Beauty Show and IECSC as credentialed media, we expected to document innovation and artistry. What we didn’t expect was to encounter a story that would remind us why visual storytelling matters beyond business—it changes lives.
The Encounter That Changed Our Perspective
Among the hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest beauty trends, our cameras led us to Mary Jenkins of The Cancer Option Collaborative (The COC). What began as routine event videography became something profoundly more meaningful.
Mary, a two-time breast cancer survivor, founded The COC in 2006 while actively battling Stage III breast cancer. Her mission was born from a stark realization—there were simply no cancer organizations that helped patients to the extent that they so desperately needed.
More Than Just Video—Documenting Purpose
“Meeting Mary changed how we see our work,” Shawn reflects. “We weren’t just capturing another trade show booth—we were documenting a movement that bridges the beauty industry with cancer survivors’ most vulnerable moments.”
The beauty industry’s response to Mary’s mission was immediate and heartfelt: “You could just see it in everyone’s eyes. The people in this industry couldn’t wait to jump in and help.” This connection birthed Hairstyles and Beauty for Hope, The COC’s dedicated fundraising arm that now spans beauty shows from coast to coast.
The Power of Visual Storytelling in Service
Through our lenses at IBS and IECSC, we witnessed how the beauty industry becomes a lifeline for cancer patients. The COC provides awareness, emotional support and financial relief services to men, women, and parents of children in active cancer treatment—services that transform the overwhelming cancer journey into one of hope and community.
“Our cameras captured something bigger than product demonstrations,” Roberta observed. “We documented how beauty professionals become healers, how trade shows become fundraising platforms, and how an industry built on making people feel beautiful extends that mission to those who need it most.”
Beyond the Trade Show Floor
Professional videography at events like IBS and IECSC does more than create marketing content—it preserves moments of human connection that ripple far beyond convention walls. Mary’s story reminded us that every frame we capture has the potential to inspire action, build community, and change lives.
The beauty industry’s collaboration with The COC represents something beautiful: when business meets purpose, magic happens. From New Orleans to DC to Atlanta to Vegas to LA, eight years and countless hairstyles later, this partnership continues growing stronger.
Our Mission Renewed
At The King’s Touch Creative, we believe every story deserves professional documentation—especially those that matter most. Meeting Mary Jenkins at IBS and IECSC reinforced our commitment to capturing not just events, but the purpose and passion that drive them.
